The UK has long been at the forefront of global developments in the field of quantum technologies. This position has only been strengthened since the inception of the national quantum technologies programme (NQTP) and the substantial investment that has supported its rollout. The Knowledge Hub is a depository of resources from across the UK ecosystem, bringing together relevant resources and learning materials that showcase how quantum technologies are positively transforming industry and the wider society through innovation. By collating and curating content from the five national Quantum Technology Hubs and the wider quantum landscape, Quantum City provides resources for all audiences, as well as news and events, quantum career guidance, and examples of best practice in STEM outreach.

A resource that explores the major discoveries and breakthroughs that have shaped the field of quantum science, from the origins of quantum theory in the late 19th century to cutting-edge developments in quantum computing, communications, sensing and metrology. The Institute of Physics (IOP)

Funding Opportunities

The Institute of Physics (IOP) Public Engagement Grant Scheme provides small grants to support projects that increase engagement with physics. Open to individuals and organisations across the UK and Republic of Ireland, the scheme particularly encourages activities that engage families and support the IOP’s Limit Less initiative, with priority given to projects reaching underrepresented groups including girls and young women, disabled young people, LGBT+ young people, those from disadvantaged backgrounds, and Black Caribbean young people. The 2026 funding round closed on 7 September 2026, but it is worth researching for 2027.

The Partnership Grants Scheme supports schools and colleges in working with STEM professionals from academia or industry to deliver hands-on investigative STEM projects. Open to UK-based schools and colleges for students aged 5 to 18, each project must involve both an educational partner and an actively practising STEM professional with relevant expertise. The scheme aims to help young people develop practical STEM and research skills, broaden their understanding of STEM careers, and build lasting partnerships between education and the STEM community. Priority is given to schools and colleges that are new to the programme or have the greatest need, helping to ensure that more students can access high-quality STEM enrichment opportunities.
